Members' Guide
From ANU Food Co-op Wiki
This is a guide to be given to members when they first join the co-op. Please add more.
Welcome to the co-op! Lots of people find the co-op a bit confusing at first, so hopefully this will make it easier. If you'd like to know more or find out what's going on, pleast visit our wiki (anu.foodco-op.com/wiki) or talk to someone at the co-op.
How the co-op runs
The co-op is a non-profit organisation, which aims to provide cheap, organic and local produce with minimal packaging.
The manager at the co-op is Barbara. She is responsible for negotiating with essay service suppliers, everyday banking and a myriad of other jobs that makes the co-op such a nice place.
The people behind the counter are volunteer co-ordinators. They serve customers, take deliveries, re-stock shelves and look after members doing work hours.
A lot of the work at the co-op is done by members. In order to gain an extra 10% discount, members are required to do 6 hours work per year. There are a wide variety of jobs, ranging from making peanut butter to data entry. If you have a skill which you think might be useful, please suggest it! See the board inside the entrance for ideas of work hours, or just turn up and ask the co-ordinator what needs doing.
How to shop at the co-op
- weighing jars etc
- ask a co-ordie to show you how to restock bins if necessary. don't expect them to do it for you.
- if you spill something, please clean it up. ask the co-ordie if you don't know where to find brooms and mops and buckets etc.
- if you see something that needs doing and you have the time, please help out and do it.
You want to do more?
If you'd like to donate more than 6 hours per year of your time to the co-op, there is plenty to do. You could take on a regular volunteer job, share ideas at management collective meetings or become a co-ordinator. If you're interested, talk to a paid worker or someone on the management collective.
