Rule 17.3.3 concerning information given to new members
17.3. At the time of lodging an application, the applicant shall be told: ... 17.3.3. that they are eligible to apply to be a co-ordinator should a vacancy arise, after 6 months of membership and work contributions, or, having been invited to appear before the Board, the Board has unanimously supported their appointment as a co-ordinator.
I think we should delete rule 17.3.3. How many co-ordinators tell everyone who applies for membership that they can become a co-ordinator after 6 months?—Adele 17:59, 5 November 2006 (PST)
- I agree. This sort of thing shouldn't really be in the Rules anyway, should it? Isn't it more suitable for a 'manual of procedure' or whatever it was we were going to call it? Does anyone remember if we decided to do that? —Sam Wilson (co-ordie, collectivite, website admin) 18:19, 5 November 2006 (PST)
Rule 18.6, 57.5 and 57.6.2 concerning co-ordinator interviews
18.6. Co-ordinators will be interviewed for suitability by at least one member of the Board and a shop employee (or a person chosen by the Board to be the alternate of any shop employee).
57.5. Shop co-ordinator applicants will be interviewed by at least one member of the Board and one member of shop management (if available) and appointed in consultation with the committee. 57.6. Members are only eligible for appointment as co-ordinators if: 57.6.1. they have been active members for at least six months, or 57.6.2. they have been invited to appear before the Board, and subsequent to that appearance the Board has unanimously supported their appointment as a co-ordinator.
I think we should delete rules 18.6 and 57.5, as the management collective recently made a decision that three training shifts for new co-ordinators is enough and an interview is not required. Rule 57.6.2 requires new co-ordinators who have been members for less than 6 months to appear before the management collective. This has not been happening in practice and should be deleted. Perhaps we could put in something about the management collective having to approve them, instead of an interview.—Adele 17:59, 5 November 2006 (PST)
Rule 18.3 combined with 25.1.6 concerning discounts available to unfinancial members
18.3. All members are entitled to a basic discount.
25.1. A person shall cease to be a member in any of the following circumstances: ... 25.1.6. six months after a member’s failure to renew their annual membership or three months after a member’s failure to renew their six-monthly membership.
Rule 25.1.6 means that even after June 30th, a member who has not paid their new annual fee remains a member for 6 months. Rule 18 describes the entitlements of members, including 18.3 that all members are entitled to the 10% discount. This means that everyone should continue to get the 10% discount for 6 months after the end of the financial year, independent of whether they have paid their yearly fee. I guess this could be fixed by changing 18.3 to 'only financial members are entitled to the basic discount'.—Adele 18:30, 5 November 2006 (PST)
